Muni Bus Incident

Day 065

110707 Muni Bus Incident
Muni Breaks a Nice Lady's Apartment Window
A dear reader sent in some photos of an unfortunate Muni mishap this morning: one of the 30-Stockton's antennae has popped loose to wreak havoc -- havoc! -- on the apartment window of some poor sap who already has the unfortunate distinction of living both on the 30-Stockton line and above a liquor store. Hey, those curved panes of glass don't come cheap.

I guess its funny because nobody really got hurt. But it could have been a serious issue.

Cafe RoyaleAnother Talk at Cafe Royale - 27 June

SF Cheap Link

Next year, our beloved Golden Gate Bridge will feast its 75th Anniversary so it’s about time to bone up on its history. Come to a live documentary by one of Cafe Royale’s most celebrated guests, the historian Peter Moylan.

Illustrated Presentation: The Mighty Task Is Done – the rousing story of building the Golden Gate Bridge, a live documentary narrated by historian Peter Moylan. 8pm, free

Moylan will present an account of the technology and politics of building the Golden Gate Bridge and the changes it brought to life in Northern California.

His recent presentation on Emperor Norton was a big success, so come early to ensure a seat for this one.

The Emperor Norton talk was very good, so I'm expecting the same high class presentation. I might learn something about the bridge and learn something about presentation.

Mid Market Redevelopment AreaEnd to San Francisco redevelopment may be near

SF Examiner Article

The end of the agency in The City could mean the ax for nearly a dozen projects that would provide hundreds of affordable-housing units, according to Redevelopment Agency Executive Director Fred Blackwell.

Blackwell addressed the agency’s commission Tuesday to discuss the limbo condition of two state Assembly bills that passed muster with lawmakers last week, but have yet to be decided by Gov. Jerry Brown, who wants to eliminate the agencies statewide.

“The hit in San Francisco would be pretty substantial,” Blackwell said in a phone interview, noting threats to efforts such as business revitalization on Third Street in the Bayview district and a push to revamp the mid-Market Street neighborhood."

Yikes ... Oh wait, never mind, the story is from the Examiner.

More Unfortunate News of Persons Vs Vehicles

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Some shocked cable car passengers say they watched a woman dart in front of the moving car before it could stop.

The car struck the woman around 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the intersection of Broadway and Mason in San Francisco.

Muni says it is now investigating the incident but does not believe driver error or equipment problems were involved.

Muni: Labor action feared after contract rejection

The resounding rejection by Muni operators of a proposed contract underscores a deep dissatisfaction among the rank and file that city officials hope won't transform into an angry labor action that could cripple the city.

Is this the Muni drivers completely misjudging the temperament of the riders and taxpayers of San Francisco?

Posey

Day 030

Buster PoseyOfficial Statement

"I appreciate the continued support of Giants fans and others as I begin the process of working my way back. But in no way do I condone threats of any kind against Scott Cousins or his family.

As I said last week, I'm not out to vilify Scott. I appreciate that he made the effort to reach out to me on the night of the play, but I was in no physical condition to talk to anyone. I have not been back with the team since that night, so I haven't even been aware of any other messages he's left for me. We all need to move on, so it isn't necessary to have a conversation with him at this point.

My only focus right now is looking forward, getting healthy and returning to catching for the Giants."

Day 027

Tales of the CityTales of the City
A New Musical

Libretto by Jeff Whitty
Music and lyrics by Jake Shears and John Garden
Based on Armistead Maupin's
Tales of the City and More Tales of the City
Choreography by Larry Keigwin
Directed by Jason Moore

On the bustling streets of 1970s San Francisco, neon lights pierce through the fog-drenched skies, disco music explodes from crowded nightclubs, and a wide-eyed Midwestern girl finds a new home—and creates a new kind of family—with the characters at 28 Barbary Lane.

Three decades after Armistead Maupin mesmerized millions with his daily column in the city's newspapers, his iconic San Francisco saga comes home as a momentous new musical. Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City unleashes an exuberant celebration of the irrepressible spirit that continues to define our City by the Bay.

002 - Sunday Streets

Day 002

Sunday StreetsWhat is Sunday Streets?

Sunday Streets is a series of events put on by the City of San Francisco to encourage health, community and fun, inspired by similar events in cities throughout the world. A Sunday Streets event creates a large, temporary, public space by closing off stretches of a neighborhood’s streets to automobile traffic, and opening them to pedestrians, bicyclists, and activities for several hours on a predetermined Sunday.

Where did the idea for Sunday Streets come from?

Sunday Streets originated in Bogota, Columbia as CiclovĂa, a day to promote free, health and community oriented events. 30 years after the first program, the concept has spread around the world from Tokyo, Japan to Kiev, Ukraine. Now, it has come to San Francisco!

How can you not like Sunday Streets? Craziness plus bikes.

Picnic at Hanging Rock

picnic-at-hanging-rock'If there must be a meaning, it is that nothingness is the biggest threat of all. "I will show you fear in a handful of dust" We fear our disappearance. We'd like to believe that our little lives, our little comments, our little film lists will endure forever. But they won't. Nothing will.'

'The open-ended nature of the fable is deliberate to mirror life where we may learn or uncover some secrets but never understand the mystery. Plenty of extraneous facts and unexplained details are related, such as the absence of scratches to Irma's bare feet, yet identical injuries appear on her head and Michael's (Dominic Guard), her joint rescuer with Albert (John Jarrett), very redolent of the `X Files'.
